The Flexnet PIR is a compact, rapidly deployable passive infrared sensor for fast and reliable detection of moving targets and their direction of travel. It works as a thermal barrier: any target crossing the sensor's field of view is detected by its infrared signature, and advanced on-board algorithms filter out false alarms and determine direction of travel before an AES-256 encrypted alert is sent across the Flexnet mesh network. If radio-silence mode is active or the link is interrupted, alarm data is stored in the device until requested by the operator. The sensor consists of a Module Core unit - with integrated radio, GPS receiver and battery - and an interchangeable PIR module offered in three variants: short (63 x 74 x 185 mm, 0.58 kg), medium (63 x 74 x 208 mm, 0.59 kg) and long-range (63 x 74 x 265 mm, 0.80 kg), each with different detection ranges and fields of view so the barrier can be matched to the choke point, track or perimeter segment being covered. Sensitivity is remotely configurable across three levels. The PIR module can be separated from the Core unit on a cable, a second PIR module can be connected to the same Core, and PIR modules can also be attached to any other Flexnet sensor type via a multi-connector - for example cueing a Scout camera directly. Like all Flexnet nodes it carries a 1 km mesh-networked radio and acts as a relay for other nodes, has built-in GPS for self-localisation on the C2 map and an anti-tamper alarm. The integrated rechargeable battery gives 30 days of operation with a 1-year battery option, and an external battery can be connected to extend endurance further. Qualified to MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461, it operates from -32 to +71 degrees C. Typical uses include gate and choke-point monitoring on airport and critical-infrastructure perimeters, trail and border-path barriers, and cueing Flexnet imagers for visual confirmation of direction of travel.
