Kalmar Motor's original electric towbarless tractor — a proven, low-maintenance platform for pushback of aircraft up to 120 tonnes from CRJ200 through B757.
The TBL 100 is Kalmar Motor's foundational model, first produced in the 1980s and continuously refined across subsequent decades. It remains in the active product line because its simplicity is a genuine operational virtue: a 96 V electric drivetrain with a direct powershift transmission, a gas-hydraulic cabin suspension system for driver comfort, and component architecture shared with the TBL 50 and TBL 180 — reducing the spare-parts footprint for operators running a mixed Kalmar fleet.
The tractor handles aircraft from the CRJ200 at the small end through the Boeing 757 at the upper end, covering a 120-tonne maximum take-off weight limit. This range brackets the core regional-jet and single-aisle traffic at most secondary and focus-city airports. With a 16,000 kg cradle lift capacity and a 2,480 mm overall width, it is dimensioned for the narrower nosegear tracks of the aircraft types it serves. The hydraulic four-wheel braking system uses wet multi-layer disc brakes front and rear.
Pushback speed is controlled in the 6–8 km/h range, appropriate for nose-to-stand movements on tight aprons. The tractor can dock while a boarding bridge is connected, an operational advantage at gates where bridge retraction adds time to the turnaround sequence. Its deliberately conservative mechanical specification — 3 forward and 3 reverse gears, a single electric drive system, straightforward hydraulics — keeps maintenance intervals and technician training requirements low, which matters at airports where GSE support depth is limited.
