RaySense DAS Buried Fiber Optic Intrusion Detection System
Covert buried fiber sensing that locates footsteps, digging and vehicles to 3 m over up to 100 km.
The buried configuration of RBtec's RaySense DAS platform turns a trenched single-mode fiber optic cable into a covert, terrain-following underground sensor. Using Coherent Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (COTDR), the processing unit monitors the backscatter signature along the fiber and detects the seismic and acoustic disturbances of footsteps, digging or vehicle movement above the buried line — with nothing visible on the surface to bypass or sabotage. RBtec ships distinct deep-learning algorithm sets for buried versus fence-mounted applications, and the system is hybrid: the same cable run can transition between underground and fence sections. Detection-by-classification AI runs fully offline, with no monthly fee, cloud dependency or hidden costs, and detection parameters can be changed by location to suppress nuisance alarms after installation. One processing unit senses 1-100 km (1-60 miles) of fiber with two channels of simultaneous, independent real-time detection. Events are pinpointed to 3 m (10 ft) between detection points anywhere along the run, simultaneous disturbances at least 40 m (130 ft) apart are reported individually, and in a redundant loop configuration detection continues to within 10 m (30 ft) on either side of a cable cut. Detection zones are software-configurable sensor sections, and no power or electronics are required in the field — the buried fiber is completely passive. The controller is a 19-inch 2U rack unit (49 x 50 x 8.9 cm, 8 kg) on 110-240 VAC auto-ranging power, drawing 85 W typical / 125 W maximum, with two FC/APC single-mode optical connectors, USB2 and 10/100/1000 Ethernet, operating at 0-40°C in an air-conditioned environment with a service life beyond 10 years. Integration is via TCP/IP, relay closures through connected PLC or ADAM modules, and a Web 2.0 interface for remote control and monitoring. Laser safety is Class 1 (IEC 60825-1, 21CFR1040.10) with key-switch shutoff; design and manufacturing are ISO 9001 accredited and CE certified (EMC Directive 2014/30/EU, Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU). Warranty is 2 years with optional per-year extensions — suited to covert border, airport, seaport, energy and government-site perimeters where the sensor itself must stay invisible.
