Fibre-optic perimeter intrusion detection for long airport fencelines — up to 80 km per processor, nothing powered at the fence.
FiberPatrol FP1150 is Senstar's ranging fiber-optic perimeter intrusion detection system for long fencelines, deployable fence-mounted, buried, or in a wall-top configuration - and also usable to protect buried pipelines and data conduits. It works by transmitting pulses of laser light into a single-mode optical fiber and measuring the minute reflections along its length; a disturbance from fence vibration changes the light returned from that point. Each processor monitors up to 80 km of perimeter and locates intrusions to within +/-4 m, including multiple simultaneous intrusions, reporting alarms by zone number, cable distance and/or GPS coordinates - so one equipment room can cover an entire international airport boundary. Because the sensor is passive telecom-grade glass fiber with a 25+ year service life, no powered or conductive items are required in the field: the cable is immune to EMI and lightning, intrinsically safe, and available with LSZH and fire-rated jackets; unused fibers can carry networking for other perimeter devices.
Because reflectometry does not need light to traverse the full cable, a cut cable is immediately reported with its exact location while detection continues up to the cut point; in the cut-immune configuration the full perimeter stays protected even after a cut. The redundancy configuration adds automatic failover transparent to the alarm system, and each 4U sensor unit has redundant hot-swappable power supplies and SSDs. EDAPT adaptive processing compensates for sustained background noise such as wind and heavy rain, while precise ranging enables environmental disaggregation - randomly distributed disturbances within a zone do not alarm - keeping nuisance rates workable on multi-kilometre GCC perimeters.
A single cable pass protects chain-link, welded-mesh and expanded-metal fences up to 4.3 m high; swinging gates can form independent zones. The integrated sensor unit includes all detection and gateway software (no separate integration server), built-in Ethernet, UltraLink I/O card support and a free SDK, with Network Manager feeding Senstar's Symphony Common Operating Platform or third-party VMS/PSIM. The FP1150 is certified by the UK's NPSA against version 6.0 of the Barrier Mounted PIDS Standard.
