Textron GSE Safeaero 220 Single-Operator Deicer
The industry's only true single-operator deicer, now offered with a 218 kWh lithium driveline.
The Safeaero 220 is Textron GSE's single-operator deicer - the only true one-person deicing rig in the industry, with drive, boom and spray all controlled from the elevating forward cabin. Removing the second crew member halves labour per pad position, and automotive-style steering plus a 40 km/h (25 mph) transit speed keep repositioning between stands quick. With the boom raised or extended the unit is limited to 6 km/h, and it remains stable in winds up to 20.6 m/s.
Reach covers widebody tail heights: maximum nozzle height is 20 m (65.6 ft) above ground, with 14 m (45.9 ft) of nozzle swing left or right and a telescoping arm running 4-8.3 m from the cabin centre. The nozzle articulates +70/-120 degrees vertically and 90 degrees each way laterally; the cabin rotates 90 degrees each way and the boom 30. Tank capacity in 1, 2 or 3-tank versions is 8,450 L (2,232 gal) without the fluid heater or 7,200 L (1,902 gal) with it. Deicing flow is 80-220 L/min and anti-icing 30-100 L/min with Intellimix proportional blending; an optional 870 kW diesel fluid heater (or 13.5-27 kW electric heating) and an approximately 2,000 m3/h forced-air system complete the spray package, alongside a ground gun on a 10 m hose reel.
Two drivelines are offered. The lithium version runs a thermally managed 218 kWh NMC pack at up to 800 VDC with a liquid-cooled high-torque AC traction motor (400 kW maximum), charged via a 22 kW AC on-board charger or 120 kW DC fast charge. The diesel version uses a Deutz TCD 4.1 L4 producing 115 kW (154 hp), certified Tier 4F / Stage V. Both carry wireless data transfer and remote diagnostics for fleet monitoring.
In the Gulf, deicing demand is event-driven rather than seasonal, and single-operator economics suit stations that see occasional winter icing and deploy deicers only a few weeks a year. The unit is CE certified and weighs 18,000-19,800 kg without fluid.
