SPACER 8600 MA
Electric towbarless MRO tug for narrowbody aircraft up to 80 tonnes, built for precision hangar repositioning.
The Mototok SPACER 8600 MA is the dedicated maintenance-operations variant of the Spacer 8600 platform, configured for the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul environment rather than airline pushback. Where the PB variant is engineered for high-cycle gate pushback, the MA is optimised for hangar entry, bay positioning, inter-dock movement, and overnight storage reconfigurations where slow-speed precision and tight clearances dominate.
The tug handles narrowbody, regional and larger business aircraft up to 80 tonnes — covering the Airbus A320 family, Boeing 737 variants, ATR turboprops, Embraer E-Jets, and larger business jets — and accepts nosewheels from 450 mm to 850 mm in diameter. Its compact 2,610 mm width and zero-turn-radius manoeuvrability allow it to position aircraft with wingtips close to hangar walls or adjacent aircraft, a characteristic Mototok quantifies as enabling up to 150% more aircraft in a given hangar floor area compared to conventional tow tractors.
The 80 V / 4 × 300 Ah armoured-plate battery pack delivers an operational range of 3–4 working days between charges, which suits MRO shift patterns where the tug may be used sporadically over a full working day rather than in continuous high-cycle pushback service. The I-NPS (Intelligent Nosegear Protection System) option adds real-time torque monitoring on the nosegear — an important safeguard during slow precision positioning where inadvertent oversteering is a realistic risk. RFID-based user access, AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) automation, and the computer maintenance diagnostic system are available as options, supporting integration into digitised hangar management workflows.
MRO operators in the GCC — where narrowbody maintenance capacity is expanding alongside airline fleet growth at carriers such as flydubai, Air Arabia and Riyadh Air — will find the MA's duty cycle and hangar-efficiency case directly applicable.
