The AquaEdge 19DV is a water-cooled centrifugal chiller built around Carrier's EquiDrive two-stage centrifugal compressor with independent inlet guide vane control on each stage. The two-stage arrangement extends the operating envelope down to very low lift conditions — a significant advantage when condenser water temperatures drop during off-peak or night-time operation — while independent vane control on each impeller allows the compressor to track part-load demand without hunting or surge instability.

The 19DV uses R-1233zd(E), a low-pressure, non-flammable, low-GWP HFO refrigerant that operates at sub-atmospheric pressures in the evaporator. This makes the unit inherently safer in occupied or semi-public spaces such as large terminal mechanical rooms and reduces leak-event risk relative to high-pressure refrigerants. The hybrid falling-film evaporator extracts heat across a thin refrigerant film rather than a fully flooded tube bundle, improving heat transfer efficiency at reduced refrigerant charge.

In an aviation context, the 19DV suits major international terminal buildings, district-cooling plant rooms, and large integrated airport city developments where a single chiller frame must meet sustained cooling loads exceeding those addressable by screw-based equipment. Its capacity expansion to 1,150 tons removes the need to parallel two medium-capacity machines where footprint, pipework, and controls simplicity are valued. PLC6 controls with PLV Pro software compatibility enable centralised plant optimisation across multi-chiller arrays.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Central chilled-water plant for major international passenger terminals handling sustained high-density cooling loads
  • District-cooling plant rooms serving integrated airport city or airport hotel complexes
  • Mission-critical facilities where sub-atmospheric refrigerant pressure reduces occupied-space risk
  • Multi-chiller arrays where PLV Pro software orchestrates plant-level efficiency optimisation
  • High-load applications where two-stage centrifugal compression outperforms equivalent-capacity screw machines on part-load efficiency
