Daikin Trailblazer AGZ-F / EWYQ Air-Cooled Scroll Chiller

The Daikin Trailblazer AGZ-F is an air-cooled scroll chiller purpose-built around low-GWP R-32 refrigerant, covering 30 to 230 tons in a modular platform designed to minimise mechanical-room footprint. Compared to its predecessor (AGZ-E), the AGZ-F delivers a claimed 33% reduction in spatial footprint, 10% weight reduction, and 15% improvement in integrated part-load efficiency — changes that matter in constrained plant rooms or rooftop plantdecks where structural and spatial limits govern equipment selection. R-32's higher volumetric cooling capacity also reduces refrigerant charge by up to 88% versus the previous generation, directly lowering leak-risk exposure and simplifying F-gas compliance documentation.

Standard units operate in ambient temperatures from 0°C to 41°C (32°F to 105°F). For GCC deployments — where summer ambient temperatures at ground level routinely exceed 45°C and can reach 52°C on exposed rooftop plantdecks — Daikin offers an optional high-ambient package extending the operating envelope to 52°C (125°F). This makes the AGZ-F genuinely deployable in Dubai, Riyadh, Doha, and Abu Dhabi summers without de-rating or operational restriction.

The EWYQ heat pump variant adds reversible operation, providing electricity-driven heating at up to three times the energy input — useful in facilities requiring year-round simultaneous heating and cooling, or in markets where gas infrastructure is being phased out. Both variants use MicroTech III controls with AHRI certification and seismic compliance, and accept BAS integration via standard protocols. The scroll compressor's inherent low vibration and sound profile suits rooftop installations above occupied spaces such as terminal concourses or hotel airside accommodation blocks.
