The AquaEdge 23XRV holds a significant engineering distinction as the first water-cooled screw chiller with a fully integrated, refrigerant-cooled variable-frequency drive. Rather than mounting the VFD externally on the unit and dissipating its heat to the machine room, the 23XRV cools the drive directly from the refrigerant circuit — eliminating the drive cooling system, reducing heat rejection into the plant room, and lowering the unit's overall electrical losses.

The tri-rotor positive-displacement screw compressor provides inherently stable, surge-free operation across the full capacity range, which is a meaningful operational advantage over centrifugal machines when condenser water temperatures fluctuate or when the plant must operate through partial-load transients such as early-morning building warmup or post-aircraft-arrival cooling demand peaks common in terminal environments.

The 23XRV sits in the mid-tier of Carrier's water-cooled screw range — above the 23XW (75–200 tons) and below the large centrifugal frames — making it a practical choice for regional airport terminal buildings, mid-scale hotel and hospitality structures within airport complexes, and cargo facility expansions where a single machine can address the full load. The ASME-certified flooded shell-and-tube heat exchangers and SmartVu touchscreen controls with non-volatile memory support straightforward maintenance and integration with building automation systems. Full-load efficiency of 0.53 kW/ton combined with IPLV of 0.299 kW/ton means part-load savings dominate the lifecycle cost calculation.
