The DABICO FMT A380 Upper Deck Bridge is a purpose-configured variant of the MTB designed to service the forward upper-deck door (Door 1R/1L upper) of the Airbus A380, which sits more than seven metres above apron level — a height and reach envelope that exceeds the standard MTB's operating range without structural reinforcement.

The design relies on the MTB's rigid structural frame, extended to maintain stiffness at full elevation under passenger load. Because servicing the upper deck requires significant lateral travel relative to the aircraft centreline, FMT offers the Dual Drive Bogie System as an option: two independently powered drive axles reduce the pendular sway that occurs when the elevated bridge moves sideways, improving both passenger comfort and final-metre docking accuracy. The Safety Floor — a spring-loaded contact assembly protecting the A380's upper-fuselage skin — is fitted as standard on this variant rather than as an option.

Integration with FMT's APIS (advanced docking guidance system) is strongly recommended for upper-deck operation: the clearance margin to the A380's engines and wing leading edge during lateral approach is tighter than on a main-deck stand, and semi-automatic docking guidance reduces operator error risk in that confined envelope.

For airports operating A380 routes — DXB, AUH, DOH, and other long-haul GCC hubs — where A380 upper-deck boarding runs simultaneously with lower-deck flow, this bridge enables parallel dual-deck boarding that cuts total boarding time for 500-plus-seat configurations.

Best for

Use cases.

  • A380 upper-deck simultaneous boarding at long-haul GCC hub gates
  • Airports requiring dual-deck boarding to reduce total turnaround time on superjumbo operations
  • Replacement of scissor-lift stair alternatives with a weather-protected enclosed bridge
  • Stands where upper-deck crew access must be maintained independent of lower-deck bridge status
  • High-density A380 turnarounds where premium/business passengers board via upper deck separately
