Lufthansa Technik's VIP and Special Aircraft Services portfolio spans three related but operationally distinct offerings that share a common engineering backbone: full VVIP completions for wide-body and narrow-body corporate jets, the SkyRetreat modular interior concept for the Airbus A220 platform, and the Patient Transport Unit Next Generation (PTU NG) airborne intensive-care system.

The full VVIP completion service takes green aircraft — ACJ320neo, Boeing 747-8, BBJ, and comparable long-range types — from bare-metal to fully certified flying residences. Hamburg's Completion Center handles cabin design in-house, executes hand-manufactured cabinetry from more than 300 finishing materials per project, integrates satellite communication, WLAN, live TV and cabin management systems, and obtains the Supplemental Type Certificate for both private and charter operations. The Boeing 747-8 programme, in which Lufthansa Technik converted three aircraft in parallel, each with roughly 440 m² of cabin area across conference, lounge, bedroom, and bathroom suites, remains the benchmark for large-format VVIP work; over 80 medium- and long-haul completions have been delivered in total.

The SkyRetreat is a design-forward modular interior concept sized for the Airbus A220, targeting a new generation of VVIP and government operators who want lounge-style flexibility rather than fixed office layouts. The cabin divides into three functional zones — a rear utility area, a central open lounge convertible from social gathering to private retreat, and a forward observation deck that opens into the enlarged cockpit zone — unified by natural materials, 4K roll-up displays, smart touch surfaces, and a reconfigurable buffet/DJ/gaming centrepiece.

The PTU NG is a self-contained, EASA- and CE-certified airborne intensive-care module that installs tool-free into any seat-track-equipped aircraft in minutes, from commercial A380s to military C295s and A321LRs. It supplies up to 13,000 litres of medical or aviation oxygen, a multi-mode power inverter accepting 28 V DC, 115 V or 230 V AC aircraft feeds, and a configurable equipment rack for ventilators, monitors, and infusion systems — enabling ICU-grade patient transport at altitude wherever the operator needs it.

For GCC operators — state fleets, royal household aviation directorates, government MEDEVAC programmes — all three products are directly relevant: the completion and SkyRetreat services for new VIP platform acquisitions, and the PTU NG for casualty-evacuation and aeromedical roles on existing fleets.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Head-of-state and royal household VVIP aircraft completions on wide-body platforms (747-8, ACJ320neo, BBJ) requiring full STC, bespoke cabinetry, and satcom integration
  • Government and private VIP fleet renewals on the Airbus A220 using the SkyRetreat modular layout for flexible lounge, observation, and utility configurations
  • Military and government MEDEVAC fleet augmentation — installing PTU NG into existing transport aircraft (C295, A321LR, A400M) to enable ICU-grade aeromedical evacuation
  • Commercial airline VVIP charter conversions requiring dual STC (private + charter) and inflight entertainment / connectivity packages
  • Rapid-deployment intensive-care patient repatriation on commercial widebodies (A380, B747-8) using the PTU NG's tool-free quick-install architecture
  • Royal Air Force and equivalent GCC air force aeromedical programmes requiring NATO-standard PTU NG units with both civil EASA and military certifications
