ACMR Air-Cooled Scroll Chiller

The ACMR is SKM's air-cooled scroll chiller range, using hermetic scroll compressors on R-410A refrigerant to cover 8 to 279 TR (28–981 kW) across 56 models on 50 Hz and 60 Hz. Scroll compressors have approximately 70% fewer moving parts than reciprocating equivalents, translating to quieter operation, lower vibration, and reduced maintenance. Small-capacity models up to 45 TR use brazed-plate heat exchangers (stainless-steel construction, rated to 421 psig on the water side); larger models switch to direct-expansion shell-and-tube evaporators, maintaining compatibility with standard chilled-water distribution systems at higher flow rates.

Performance data from the selection guide shows EER values consistently in the 9.9–10.8 Btu/W·h range at 95 °F (35 °C) ambient, with usable capacity maintained through 118.4 °F (48 °C) ambient. Models with larger capacity use electronic expansion valves; smaller units use thermostatic valves. The galvanised steel casing is phosphatised and powder-coated to pass a 1,000-hour 5% salt-spray test (ASTM B117), directly relevant to the saline-air environments of Gulf coastline and port-adjacent facilities. Certified under AHRI 550/590 and 551/591.

The ACMR is specified for medium-scale commercial buildings — office blocks, shopping centres, clinics, schools, and villa compounds — where the load does not justify a screw chiller but a packaged DX system is insufficient. Multiple units can be deployed in parallel for larger loads with inherent N+1 redundancy; losing one compressor degrades rather than eliminates cooling capacity, a useful operational resilience property for airport concessions buildings, cargo terminals, and similar facilities where total loss of cooling is operationally disruptive.
