The CGAM is the entry-level unit in Trane's commercial air-cooled chiller range, using scroll compressors fitted with intermediate discharge valves (IDV) for smooth capacity modulation and reduced cycling noise. It covers 20–130 tons in a compact footprint, making it the appropriate specification when a single building or equipment room requires comfort cooling or light process cooling without a full central chiller plant. Refrigerant is R-454B, a next-generation low-GWP fluid that positions the unit for compliant operation under evolving HFC regulations.

A factory-installed buffer tank option addresses installations with short-loop building piping — a common challenge in retrofit aviation facilities where chilled-water loop volume is minimal and compressor short-cycling would otherwise occur. Partial heat recovery is available for domestic-hot-water pre-heat or low-grade process heat, and an integrated pump package simplifies installation. Low-noise fan selection and a compressor attenuation option make the CGAM the quietest standard configuration in the Trane air-cooled range at this capacity band.

In aviation contexts, the CGAM is the typical specification for smaller stand-alone facilities: a remote terminal satellite building, a ground-power equipment shelter, a catering unit kitchen, an apron control tower, or an aircraft maintenance workshop where the load is below the threshold justifying a screw-based unit. The extended ambient operating map (-20 to +125 °F / -29 to +52 °C for cooling, with heat recovery to 140 °F) covers year-round operation in Gulf climates. BACnet, LonTalk, and hardwired points allow integration into an airport BMS without a third-party gateway.
