The TCA is Trane's highest-capacity oil-free air-cooled chiller, using a magnetic-bearing centrifugal compressor that operates without contact between rotating surfaces and therefore without lubricating oil. Rated from 300–850 tons (up to 3 MW) it covers the upper band of air-cooled capacity where competing screw-based units reach their efficiency or size limits. Operating refrigerants are low-GWP R-515B or R-1234ze (GWP <1), both of which are under active specification in refrigerant-regulation-driven upgrades across the Middle East and Europe.

The elimination of oil removes degradation in heat-exchanger efficiency over time (oil fouling of evaporator tubes) and removes the oil-management maintenance programme entirely. The magnetic-bearing compressor can start and stop without a warm-up period, enabling rapid response to load changes and direct compatibility with Rapid Restart — the chiller recovers full capacity within seconds of a power event. This feature is fundamental to airport data-centre and ATC backup-cooling specifications where cooling loss during a UPS switchover is not acceptable.

Advanced Intelligent Controls for Data Centers is the standard controller on the TCA, rather than the Symbio 800 used on Trane's comfort-cooling range — this is a meaningful product-selection signal indicating the TCA is positioned as mission-critical infrastructure, not commercial comfort cooling. The air-cooled format eliminates water-treatment, cooling-tower maintenance, and condenser-water-treatment chemical programmes, reducing total lifecycle operational complexity versus an equivalent water-cooled centrifugal plant in a sandy, high-ambient GCC environment.
