YORK CYK Water-to-Water Compound Centrifugal Chiller / Heat Pump
Compound centrifugal chiller-heat pump producing simultaneous 42°F chilled water and up to 180°F hot water from a single water-cooled system.
The YORK CYK is a water-to-water compound centrifugal unit that runs two motor-driven centrifugal compressors in a compound arrangement to deliver both high-grade heating and full-load chilling simultaneously. The cooling side covers 300 to 2,500 TR (1,050–8,800 kW); the heating side delivers 10,000 to 40,000 MBH (2,900–11,700 kW). Critically, it can output chilled water at 42°F (5.6°C) and hot water at up to 180°F (82°C) at the same time — a thermal versatility unavailable from any single-stage machine.
As a heat pump the CYK captures condenser rejection heat that a conventional chiller discards and upgrades it to process-usable temperatures. Johnson Controls cites three-to-five times greater efficiency than a traditional boiler-plus-chiller combination, and up to 50% reduction in water and operational costs for facilities currently running parallel boiler and chiller infrastructure. Turndown reaches 25% of design capacity through variable-speed drive and compressor VI control.
Optional ultra-low-GWP refrigerants R-1234ze and R-515B are available. A patented double-bundle condenser option enables efficient part-load heat management. For airport operators managing large passenger terminal complexes where simultaneous heating of retail and catering zones and cooling of concourses is a year-round requirement, the CYK eliminates the capital and maintenance overhead of separate boiler plant.
