BroadShield GNSS Jamming & Spoofing Detection (SecureSync Interference Detection Suite)
Patented software algorithms that detect GPS jamming and spoofing on standard receivers — no extra hardware — and switch timing to safe holdover automatically
BroadShield is Safran's patented GNSS interference detection software: a library of algorithms, field-proven for over a decade, that analyses the GPS signal and spectrum to detect both jamming and spoofing and immediately report the disruption to the PNT system so it can protect itself. On the jamming side it recognises CW tone, swept CW, pulsed CW, AWGN and BPSK interference waveforms, among others; on the spoofing side it detects GNSS-simulator signatures, anomalies in GPS data, data inconsistencies, and jumps in position and time. Crucially, it works with standard commercial GPS/GNSS receivers and requires no additional hardware.
For fixed timing infrastructure it is delivered as the SecureSync Interference Detection Suite (ordering code SS-OPT-BSH): on detection, the SecureSync time server logs the event, raises alarms and notifications (SNMP traps, email), and automatically disables GNSS synchronisation — switching to other available input references or transitioning into holdover on the precision internal oscillator — so downstream NTP/PTP clients never consume corrupted time. Detection capabilities are regularly updated against new and emerging threats. BroadShield is also available as an embeddable software library for OEMs and integrators: the algorithms can be converted into most major programming languages and run on nearly any operating system, needing only a GPS receiver that exposes raw GPS NAV data, a processing unit, and integration support from Safran's team.
The airport relevance is direct: reported GNSS jamming and spoofing events affecting aviation have risen sharply as low-cost software-defined radios have proliferated, and an airport's entire timing chain — network, surveillance recording, communications, operational databases — typically hangs off one rooftop GNSS antenna. BroadShield turns silent timing degradation into a detected, alarmed and automatically mitigated event, giving operations and security teams real-time situational awareness of the local GNSS environment from the time-server dashboard.
